At a time of austerity, one American defied convention to build the largest aircraft in the world. Famously known as the ‘Spruce Goose’, the H-4 Hercules and Howard Hughes’ genius was defined by one minute. One minute of flight on 2nd November 1947. In that time Howard Hughes’ vision for the greatest aircraft ever built was vindicated. It’s fitting therefore that the aircraft is being commemorated by a timepiece of this stature.
A sublime fusion of micro-engineering, watch design and aviation history, the Bremont H-4 Hercules Platinum Limited Edition chronometer is limited to only 75 pieces. It salutes this iconic flying boat of the 1940s and contains original birchwood from its fuselage. A percentage of the proceeds from each limited edition will go towards the preservation of the aircraft at the Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum in McMinnville, Oregon, USA.
The 25 jewel Bremont BWC/02 movement is based on the original proprietary automatic BWC/01 calibre built in partnership with movement house, La Joux Perret, and is housed in a beautifully finished 43mm case. The new slate grey coloured BWC/02 movement has GMT functionality, along with hours, minutes, a smaller non-hacking seconds hand at 9 o’clock and the date at 6 o’clock. Each Bremont H-4 Hercules Limited Edition rotor is constructed using original birch wood from the H-4 Hercules fuselage, which has been carefully incorporated into each propeller blade.

Much like the ‘Spruce Goose’, the new Bremont Limited Edition timepiece has been crafted as much as manufactured and each is carefully hand-built and tested at Bremont’s state-of-the-art workshops in Henley-on-Thames, UK. The limited edition bridle leather packaging, which also incorporates original aileron fabric from the aircraft that flew on the 2nd November 1947, is beautifully designed and manufactured in England.
